Trend Tester: To try out new and viral trends.

My personal rollercoaster in the world of fashion

Hello, my dear fashion lovers!

If you’re a longtime reader of my blog, you know I’m not afraid to try out every new wave in the fashion world. For me, fashion isn’t just about getting dressed; it’s a rollercoaster ride —sometimes a little scary, but always fun and exciting! My blog, “Trend Tester,” started here. I noticed that every week a new trend would go viral on Instagram and TikTok: sometimes “low-rise jeans” (which I stopped wearing in the 2000s!), sometimes “corset tops” (which make it hard to breathe). I always wondered, “Do these trends work in real life, or are they just for the camera?” That’s where my testing began. My first inspiration came from trends that were so strange that I just had to see them and see if they were actually wearable. It wasn’t just about styling, but about understanding the truth behind the fashion world.

When Viral Trends Failed: The Story of the “Pillow Dress” and the “Mini Bag”

Not every trend succeeds, and my personal experiences are proof of that.

1. The “Pillow Dress Challenge” and the discomfort

I remember a trend that went viral during lockdown—the “pillow dress challenge .” People wore their pillows tied together with belts like dresses and posted photos. It was strange, yet fascinating. I thought, “Well, I’ll give it a try!” The next day, I picked up a new, fluffy pillow and pulled out my widest belt. My housemates were watching me from the kitchen, and they had a strange look on their faces—a mixture of laughter and “What is she doing!” I set the pillow around my waist and secured it with the belt. First off: it was n’t comfortable at all . Second off: it was ready to slip off any second! I posed, took a picture of myself, and then quickly took it off. The experience was great for fun and entertainment, but it taught me that not everything that goes viral is wearable.

2. The illusion of the “mini bag”

Another trend that disappointed me was mini bags ! They’re so small, cute, and so perfect for Instagram. I bought a small, bright mini bag. I thought it would make my outfit look classy.

The first time I took it to brunch with friends, I realized I couldn’t fit my phone, keys, or even lipstick in it. I had to hold my phone in my hand, constantly worrying about dropping something.

Conclusion: Mini bags are only good for photoshoots. In real life, where I need my phone, wallet, and even a small water bottle, this trend proved completely impractical . This experience taught me that functionality is more important than style.

My two successful trends: color blocking and oversized blazers

Not every trend is a dud. Some trends can completely transform your style and give you a newfound confidence.

1. Color Blocking: The Color of Confidence

For me, that first successful trend was “Colour Blocking” . I used to think wearing different bright colors together would look weird—like a green skirt, a blue top, and yellow sandals. I always stuck to safe colors (like black, white, beige). But then I challenged myself. I dug through my wardrobe and found two completely different colors: a deep magenta top and electric blue palazzo pants . I was a little nervous about wearing them together. I thought people would stare. But when I stepped out, it was the opposite! I immediately got a compliment, “Wow, your outfit is so vibrant!” I realized that color blocking isn’t something to be afraid of, but something to show confidence in. When you wear colors that aren’t considered “safe,” you show the world how confident you are in your choices. Color blocking became my go-to trend .

2. Oversized Blazer: Power and Comfort

I recently embraced the oversized blazer trend. At first, I thought it was too formal and would look odd on my petite frame. But I borrowed an old blazer from someone around the house and tried it on.

This blazer not only instantly gave my outfit a “boss lady” vibe, but it was also surprisingly comfortable. It could be styled with jeans, a dress, or even cycling shorts. This trend taught me that it’s not the size that matters in fashion , but how you carry it. This is a piece that will always be in my wardrobe.

My Trend Tester Formula: Three Essential Questions

These experiences have given me my own “trend tester formula,” which I’d like to share with you. Before adopting any new or viral trend, be sure to ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Is it Practical for My Life?: Can I comfortably wear it to work, ride the bus, or handle the kids? If the answer is no (like with a mini bag), skip it.
  2. Is it in My Budget?: Trends come and go. Do you want to invest heavily in this trend, or can you try it DIY or in a more affordable way? My suggestion: Spend less on trends and more on classics.
  3. Is it Truly “Me”?: The most important question: does this trend match your personality and personal style ? If you feel uncomfortable, or have to force yourself to wear it, skip the trend! Because true fashion is what you feel confident and comfortable in. Trends shouldn’t control you; you should let trends control you.

This blog post is based solely on my personal experience and passion for fashion , intended solely for entertainment and inspiration. Trying trends is entirely
at your own risk . Please consider your budget and comfort when purchasing clothing or accessories. I am not responsible for any inconvenience or purchase inconveniences that may arise from following any trends. Always choose your own style!
