Is the New Portable Gaming Console Worth the Hype? My Experience

These days, whenever I’m scrolling through Instagram or watching YouTube shorts, one thing keeps coming up: a new portable gaming console . People are praising it everywhere, some are talking about its performance, some are calling its battery life “next-level.” The gamer in me (which rarely comes out ) got excited. But I’m one of those people who doesn’t buy something immediately after seeing the hype. I always wonder: “Is it really that good, or is it just marketing?”

But two weeks ago, I finally decided I’d buy this console. And now that I’ve used it almost daily, I felt like sharing my honest experience. If you’re also confused about whether this portable gaming console is worth the hype, my personal experience might just give you some clarity.

Starting From the First Impression

When the package was delivered, I was quite excited. The box design was sleek and had a minimalistic look. As soon as I opened the box, the console felt absolutely premium—matte finish, lightweight, and quite comfortable to hold. I was honestly a bit shocked because I thought portable consoles were a bit plasticky. But this one felt strong and stylish . Inside the packaging were basic accessories—a charging cable, a user manual, and some default stickers. Seeing the stickers brought back memories of my childhood PSP days!

Setup Experience: Surprisingly Smooth

I usually get a little nervous setting up gadgets. Something or the other always goes wrong. But setting up this console was so easy that even a non-techie probably wouldn’t have any problems. Onscreen instructions appeared on the display, and I reached the home screen in just 5 minutes. Connecting to Wi-Fi was easy, and updates installed quickly. I thought updates would take a long time (like our phones take forever), but they worked quite quickly.

Performance: Fast, Smooth, and Honestly Impressive

I’m a casual gamer, but performance is very important to me. I don’t like laggy devices. The first thing I noticed about this console was its smoothness . Switching menus, opening games, transitions… everything was buttery smooth.

The games I tested were mostly:

  • Racing
  • Adventure
  • Couple of high-graphics action games

When I played my first high-graphics game, I literally felt like I was using a mini-PC. Frame drops were zero, and the graphics were quite sharp. This will be mind-blowing for beginners or casual players, but even pro users will find it satisfying. I remember one small moment very clearly – I was sitting on my bed one night and planned to play a game for 10 minutes just to pass the time. I found out that I had played for more than an hour. The battery was only 20-25%. That’s when I realized – this console is actually powerful .

Battery Life: A Big Win

I’m a battery-conscious person. I don’t really like frequent charging. This console’s battery life is honestly impressive.

  • Casual gaming: 6–7 hours easily
  • Heavy high-graphics games: around 4–5 hours
  • Standby time: amazing

I fully charged it once and took it on a trip. I played for 3-3.5 hours on the train journey, and still had plenty of battery left. This moment convinced me that the hype was kind of justified.

Display Quality: Colors Pop

No gaming experience is complete without a display. This console’s display is vibrant and quite sharp. I especially liked its brightness control feature. Even at low brightness at night, there’s no eye strain, and during the day, high brightness is sufficient. When the neon tracks appeared in the racing game, the animation literally popped. I felt like I was playing on a big screen.

Comfort and Design: Perfect for Long Sessions

Those who use handheld consoles know how important a comfortable grip is. The grip design on this console feels incredibly thoughtful. I normally get tired after 20–30 minutes, but with this console, I managed to play for an hour continuously without wrist pain. The buttons are soft, the triggers are responsive, and the vibration feedback felt fairly balanced. Neither too strong nor too flat.

Games Compatibility: One of the Best Parts

This was the biggest “YES!” factor for me. The console supports multiple categories of games—retro, indie, new-gen titles, and some emulated games too. I was able to play childhood games like Mario and Contra, which was an emotional moment for me. At the same time, modern adventure games continued to play without issue.

Where It Falls Short: Because No Gadget is Perfect

With hype comes high expectations, so I found a few minor flaws:

  • The speakers are loud, but depth is a bit lacking. Without headphones, the full immersion feel isn’t achieved.
  • Ports are a bit limited. If you want to add extra accessories, you’ll need to use a dongle.
  • Some heavy games take time to install.

But honestly, these aren’t flaws that would break daily usage. They’re simply points that convert expectations into reality.

So… Is It Worth the Hype? My Honest Verdict

If I were to summarise my 2 weeks experience in one sentence: “Yes, the hype was justified to a great extent.”

This console is perfect for those people:

  • Those who want to get rid of boredom while traveling
  • Those who enjoy casual gaming
  • Those who want their old classics and new games on the same device
  • Students, office-goers, or anyone who wants portable entertainment

If you’re a super hardcore gamer who just wants ultra-high FPS and PC-level performance, this might not be the perfect replacement for you. But as a powerful, stylish, smooth portable gaming console , it absolutely shines. I personally am more than satisfied with this device. Whenever I have some free time—a cup of tea, a soft blanket, and this console… perfect combo!
